Principal's Message 2009

Picnic Point High School was established in 1962 and has an excellent reputation for providing quality education within a caring and well disciplined environment. The school strives to create a dynamic learning environment that encourages all students to achieve their personal best and become responsible, informed citizens. The school's image in the community is enhanced by the wide range of students' sporting achievements, the variety and professional quality of students' activities in the performing arts and students' achievements in external examinations.

The school population has grown to 1004 students in 2009. This growth has been due to a combination of parents choosing Picnic Point High School, instead of their local school and greater confidence of parents within our local feeder primary schools.

This growth has enabled us to offer a very diverse curriculum while still maintaining a strong, nurturing student welfare program focused on close contact with students and their parents. In 2007 we extended the curriculum even further and introduced Construction in Year 11 and reintroduced Languages into the senior curriculum after an absence of some years. In 2008 we introduced Photography, another new stage 6 course and a third Special Education class to complement our highly successful Special Education Programs.

The Parents and Citizens Association and the School Council strongly support the school in partnership with teachers to collaboratively influence the future directions of the school.

We strongly believe that positive interpersonal relationships are the single most important ingredient in a successful school.  Students, parents, visitors to the school and teachers remark on the positive, friendly and warm atmosphere.  You can't mandate such a feeling.  It is the soul and culture of our school and is the product of students, parents and teachers learning together.
